Boys basketball 

Braves drop fifth straight of the season

Again, the comeback effort fell short for the Braves as they dropped their fifth straight game since their lone win of the season, 65-39, to Class A No. 2 Barr-Reeve.

Aidan Schroer led the way for the Braves with 10 points and was the only BC player in double figures. 

Carter Waskom and Clay Chastain each buried a couple of 3-pointers for six points each while Isaiah Wineinger had five.

Derek Thompson and Nathan Koch each had three points, and Kiernan Tiemeyer, Lucas Hines and Jalen Tiemeyer each scored two. 

The Braves will play Southridge at 3 p.m. in the consolation game back at North Daviess High School on Dec. 27. 

Saturday’s results

Owls dominate Panthers in the pool

Seymour won all but three events during Saturday’s dual meet with Jennings County sweeping both the boys’ and girls’ meets.

The Owls swept all six of the relay events with the team of Katya Cox, Abby Boyt, Maren McClure and Sandy Cerino starting the day off with a win in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:05.05. 

Cox, Cerino, Amelita Vasquez and Karsen Reasoner glided to the finish in the 200 free relay with a time of 2:03.39, and the team of August Hunt, Lillian Sunbury, Samantha Jacobi and Macy Traylor won the 400 free relay with a time of 4:23.32.

On the boys’ side, the foursome of Aiden Jent, Trevor Layne, Eduardo Zarate and Blake Stark won the 200 medley relay with a mark of 1:58.21. 

Paul Montgomery, Harrison Cottrill, Clayton Greenawalt and Layne won the 200 free relay at 1:41.99, and Zarate, Cottrill, Bryce Miller and Jack Land won the 400 free relay in 4:04.86.

Individually, the Owls had four swimmers win multiple events.

Miller took home the top prize in both sprint events, winning the 50 freestyle in 24.29 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 55.30. Land won both of the longer freestyle events, finishing first in the 200 freestyle at 2:05.62 and in the 500 freestyle at 5:44.02.

Layne was tops in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke with times of 1:04.12 and 1:04.92, respectively. McClure won the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke in times of 1:00.44 and 1:10.37, respectively. 

Other event winners for Seymour on Saturday were: Sunbury (200 freestyle), Cox (500 freestyle), Cerino (50 freestyle), Kaleb Brown (diving), Boyt (100 butterfly), and Cottrill (100 backstroke).
