A 58-year-old Jennings County man died Tuesday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on State Road 7 near County Road 750N.
Mark A. Holt of North Vernon was driving a Ford Ranger north on State Road 7 in the northern part of Jennings County when the wreck occurred shortly after 3 p.m., according to a report from Trooper David Owsley with the Indiana State Police Versailles Post.
Owsley said the initial investigation shows the truck left the east side of the road before returning to it and overturning.
After it overturned, the vehicle caught fire, according to a news release from Sgt. Stephen Wheeles, public information officer for the Versailles Post.
Holt sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jennings County Coroner’s Office.
Investigators believed Holt was the driver of the vehicle and had made contact with his family Tuesday evening, police said.
His identity was confirmed Thursday through dental records, and his family was notified, police said.
The investigation is ongoing.
Owsley was assisted by the Indiana State Police Versailles Crash Reconstruction Team, officers with Jennings County Sheriff’s Department and personnel with Jennings County Emergency Medical Services, Scipio-Geneva Volunteer Fire Department and Jennings County Coroner’s Office.
