Boys and girls soccer athletes, boys and girls cross country runners were honored and boys tennis and volleyball players received awards when Trinity Lutheran held its fall sports awards program Sunday night in the Bollinger Athletic Complex.

The head coaches introduced the athletes and some of the assistant coaches helped with the presentations.

Girls soccer coach Thom Hayes talked about the success his team enjoyed during the fall. The Cougars lost to Providence 1-0 in the sectional final and finished with a record of 9-6.

Emma Goecker was named most valuable player and received a senior award.

Ashley Goecker received the Cougar Award and Kathryn Whitmore was named the most improved player.

Coach Joe Doggett recapped the boys’ soccer season and announced Conner Sims as the most improved player.

The coach presented Josh Rowe and Kaleb Baumgartel with Cougar Awards.

Sawyer Doggett was named the most valuable player and received a senior award.

“He was a phenomenal floor general," Doggett said of his son. "He played every game from his freshmen through his senior year except when he was injured.”

Baumgartel and Doggett were co-captains of the soccer team.

Nathan Voelker received the most improved award for the tennis team, Tanner Bauserman received a Cougar Award and Noah Voelker received a senior award.

Tennis coach Bailey Baker announced Jace Crockett as the most valuable player and he received a senior award.

Evan Hunt was named most valuable runner for the boys and Sadie Nay received that honor for the girls.

Coach Hildreth said those runners worked hard to achieve their goals and were supportive of their teammates.

Volleyball coach Faith Wilder-Newland said this season was about a lot more than success on the volleyball court. The Cougars were 30-6 and lost the state championship match in Class A to Cowan.

“The team focused to get better every day in the gym," she said. "This was about academics and these girls wanted to be the best people they could be. The most important thing is their maturity.”

Kayla Goecker received a Cougar Award and Kennedy Hoffman was named most improved.

Hannah Sabotin, who was the only senior on the team, received most valuable player honors.

She also received a senior award and was named academic all-state. Sabotin received the mental attitude award at the state tournament for Class A.

“The amount of skills she bring to the table is amazing,” Wilder-Newland said.

Faith-Wilder announced Sabotin, Hoffman, Bailey Reynolds and Sydney Jaynes were all-district, and Jaynes, Sabotin, Reynolds, Hoffman and Kamzi Gross were named all-state.
