Thelma Lou Crider, “T.L.”, to those who knew and loved her most, passed from this life on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at Hoosier Christian Village in Brownstown, Indiana, at the age of 88.

Thelma was the eldest child born to Dan and Laura (Pridemore) Fleenor on May 24, 1931. She attended and was a proud cheerleader for Clear Spring High School, where she met her husband, Jack D. Crider. Jack and Thelma married on October 21, 1950, and soon after, moved to Indianapolis, where Thelma was a secretary for Advanced Electric Type.

Jack and Thelma had 3 children: Gregory D. Crider of Bloomington, Indiana, Cathy J. Schneider of Seymour, Indiana, and Candace S. Beard of Brownstown, Indiana. In 1963, Jack and Thelma moved their young family home to Houston, Indiana, where they created Jack D. Crider Construction and Berry Branch Lake and Cottages.

Thelma spent the next 50 years being a devoted daughter, housewife, mother, and grandmother, managing the Cottages at Berry Branch Lake and doing clerical work for Jack D. Crider Construction. She was a devout Christian and dedicated member of Houston Christian Church. Thelma also spent 19 years as a Women’s Bible Studies Leader in Columbus, Indiana.

After 62 years of marriage, Thelma’s husband, Jack, passed away and she moved into a home he built in Brownstown, Indiana. The last seven years she has been a dedicated member of Brownstown Church of Christ. Thelma loved the Lord and her family. She was an avid Scrabble player to the end.

Thelma is survived by her siblings: Betty (Orval) Fish and Steve (Linda) Fleenor; children: Gregory D. Crider, Cathy (Grant) Schneider, and Candace S. Beard; grandchildren: Kelly (Matthew) Snawder, Mitchell L. Crider, Jill (Andy) Glover, Clayton (Kayla) Beard, and Jack G. Schneider; and her great-grandchildren, Madison and Alexa Snawder, Drew Glover, and Kinley, Collins, and Kambry Beard.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings: Richard, Sue and Boyd Fleenor and Vivian Mouser; and her great-granddaughter, Lily Snawder.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2019, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Michael Hogg officiating. Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.

Thelma will be laid to rest at Houston Christian Church Cemetery.
