Mrs. Lila “Lee” Acton 87, of Seymour, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2019 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Springfield, Ohio to the late George Milliner and Emma Elizabeth Hillard Huffenburger.

Lee met the love of her life in Cortland on Thanksgiving weekend when she traveled from nursing school to Beulah Acton’s family dinner. This is where she met Carl and a romance began. She married Carl Acton at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Waymansville on September 2, 1955 leading to 61 years of a beautiful marriage.

She graduated from Jewish Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati, Ohio, earning her registered nursing degree. Her career began at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, followed by an extensive career working at Schneck Medical Center in the Emergency Room where she once delivered a baby in the backseat of a police car and 5th floor Head Nurse.

She also worked for Bartholomew County as the Public Health Nurse, for Doctors Exner and Dugan, Doctors Baxter and Bevers, Jackson Park Convalescent Center, Pantasote and Hoosier Christian Village. After retiring, Lee continued to care for several elderly people in her neighborhood at their homes.

Lee and Carl spent many years fishing, and even traveled many times to Canada with his brother and sister-in-law, Don and Dottie Acton for the “BIG CATCH!” She was well known for her angel food cakes, pies and cobblers, as well as her beautiful crocheting and needlework.

Lee is a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church, Waymansville and a past member of the Seymour Lioness Club.

Mrs. Acton is survived by three daughters, Cathy (Tony) Schafstall, Brenda (George) James, and Edith (Norman) Otte; eight grandchildren, Andrew (Brandy) Schafstall, Cassie (Ben) Fox, Lacey (Josh) Lanam, Nicholas (Natasha Rollins) Walker, Cassandra Walker, Jacob Otte, Adam Otte, and Preston Otte; great grandchildren, Tyler and Brooke Schafstall, Eli, Cali and Emmi Fox, Luke, Oliver and Liza Lanam, Braeden, Carlee and Gracelyn Walker, Greyson Heideman, and Althea Grissom; sisters, Edith (Brooks) Briedenthal, Marcella White, Vikki (Dave) Bauer.

She was preceded in death by her father, George Milliner; mother and step-father, Emma and Atmore “Butchie” Huffenburger; husband, Carl Acton; sister, Anita Taylor; son-in-law, Richard Walker.

Funeral service will be at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Monday, October 28, at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Mike Seaney officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery Waymansville.

Family and friends may call at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
