VALLONIA

Jerry Lee Root, 65, of Vallonia, died at 8:39 p.m. on Monday, October 21, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital, Salem. He had been ill for 4 months. He retired from Nabisco/ConAgra Foods after 35 years of employment. Jerry enjoyed deer hunting and fishing.

He was born on April 26, 1954 in Seymour to the late Elbert “Nick” & Beulah Stewart Root. On October 27, 1982 he married Loretta Dowell Root and she survives in Vallonia. Other survivors include children; Bobby (China) Ivey-Kentucky, Loretta (Daniel) Bryant-Kentucky, Angie Root-Beech Grove, IN, Tammy (Jerry) Krick-Beech Grove, IN, Jerry (Rhiannon) Root, Jr.-Shelbyville, IN, Sherry (Roger) Plank-North Vernon, IN, Elizabeth Ivey-Indianapolis, IN, George Collester-Texas, Vallerie (Dustin) Freeman-Kentucky; 17 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Michael Root-North Vernon, IN & Roger Root-Vallonia, IN; 4 sisters, Marie Henry-North Vernon, IN, Karen Lashbrooks-North Vernon, IN, Judy Burris-Pekin, IN, & Brenda Root-Vallonia, IN.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Christopher Carson.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2019 at Johnson Funeral Home, Vallonia. Friends may visit the family on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will take place at the Vallonia Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Johnson Funeral Home.
