Two people died in a single-vehicle crash early Tuesday on State Road 3 in Jennings County.

The initial investigation by Trooper Andrew Garrett with an Indiana State Police-Versailles crash reconstruction team, said the wreck involved a gray 2005 Toyota Scion driven south on State Road 3 near County Road 650S by David T. Seropian, 20, Scottsburg.

The vehicle left the east side of the roadway before striking a tree and overturning, police said. Seropian was ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash, state police said.

A passenger in Seropian’s vehicle, Shaylla Jones, 21, of Scottsburg, also received fatal injuries in the collision.

Both Seropian and Jones were pronounced dead at the scene by the Jennings County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation further indicated Seropian may have swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway. Investigators believe speed also may have been a contributing factor in the crash.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor although toxicology results are pending at this time, state police said.

Assisting at the scene were the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office, Lovett Township Fire Department, Jennings County EMS and Clark’s Towing.
