Evening Lions Club announces golf scramble winners

The 17th annual Seymour Evening Lions Club golf scramble was Aug. 31 at Shadowood Golf Course in Seymour.

Eight four-person teams began the event with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Fifty-one local companies and individuals supported the event by sponsoring a hole. This year, there were 13 new hole sponsors, while six local companies provided door prizes.

The event included cash prizes of $400 to the winning team and $300 to the second-place team. The winning team consisting of Jan Graves, Jim Doolan, Brian Brock and Doug Lynch posting a low score of 60. Phil Garrison, Larry Tingle, Vic Thixton and Stephen Dickerson were the second-place team and posted a score of 64.

A 50/50 putting contest was conducted on the putting green during the event. Krista Mallory and Adam Otte tied for putting honors, and both donated their $30 winnings back to the Lions Club.

Bob Poynter Auto Group sponsored a $1,000 hole-in-one contest on the 10th hole. Several other golf-related contests took place during the event.

Other winners included, Brian Brock, closest to the pin for men; Larry Tingle, longest drive for men; Krista Mallory, longest drive for women; and Lion Reed longest putt made. There was no winner in the closest to the pin for women.

A meal was served in the pavilion, winning teams were announced and door prizes were awarded to conclude the event.

All proceeds go to Lions projects, including the Indiana Lions Eye Bank, Leader Dogs for the Blind, Indiana Lions Cancer Control, diabetes awareness, Boys and Girls Club, Girls Inc., The Alley, Anchor House Family Assistant Center and Pantry, Halloween costume parade, high school band scholarships and athletic awards and many others.

The club meets on the second Thursday of each month. The next meeting will be Oct. 10 at First Financial Bank, 1130 E. Tipton St., Seymour.
