Delta Delta kicks off sorority year

The Delta Delta chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha met Sept. 4 at the Community Foundation of Jackson County in Seymour with Susan Waltz presiding.

Waltz attended the fall conference Sept. 21 in Terre Haute. She announced that Dee Hess received a Flying in ESA Award and the award for most spirit at the state convention in June.

The chapter also won several first-place awards, including most money donated to local projects, most money donated to local projects on a percentage basis and most philanthropic hours on local projects on a percentage basis.

Also, the chapter won second place for most money to the disaster fund and third place for most money to the disaster fund on a percentage basis, most philanthropic hours on local projects and increase in membership on a percentage basis.

Philanthropic chairwomen Hess and Linda Hofer reported on the year’s upcoming fundraisers, including mum sales with a $900 goal going to Jackson County United Way and other charities and Oktoberfest $999 raffle with a $1,200 goal going to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Camp Riley and other charities.

Setup for Oktoberfest is at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Chances at winning $999 are $1 each or 10 for $5 and can be purchased from any member. Members also are collecting manufacturer coupons to send overseas.

Donate Profits Day at Chili’s for St. Jude is Monday. Members plan to meet for dinner at 6:30 p.m. They also voted for their top two local charities to receive funds from the chapter.

Ways and means chairwoman Libby Kimmel said the committee will have monthly raffles and serve dinner at the May meeting.

Vice President Mary Anne Schneider announced that rush will be a recipe swap at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at a location to be announced. Each member should bring a food item and copies of the recipe as well as two wrapped items worth less than $5 each for ESA bingo prizes.

Kimmel and Amy Steitz provided refreshments. Kara Abraham won the monthly ways and means raffle.

The next meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Community Foundation of Jackson County.
