Two local men were arrested Wednesday after attacking and robbing another man in an alley on Seymour’s northeast side, police report.

Stephen Calvin Stidam, 35, of Freetown and Jeremiah Christopher Oliger, 30, of Seymour face preliminary Level 5 robbery charges after an incident on East Sixth Street.

Assistant Police Chief Craig Hayes said a 26-year-old Seymour man met with Sgt. Michael Cooper at 5:10 p.m. to report the incident.

The man said he was approached from behind and struck on the head and battered several more times before having his wallet taken by the two suspects.

Hayes said the man was able to identify one of the robbers as Oliger.

The injured man was taken to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour and was released after treatment, police said.

Police were able to locate Oliger near his residence on North Avenue in Seymour, and the second suspect, later identified as Stidam, was with him.

Both men were arrested for robbery and taken to the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown without bond.

Robbery is a Level 5 felony that is punishable between one to six years if convicted. The advisory sentence is three years.

Hayes said additional charges are likely to be requested against Oliger and Stidam.

Cooper and Detective Sgt. Troy Munson are investigating the  incident.
