Dr. Robert W. Kirtley, of Seymour, passed away Friday, August 30, 2019 at Covered Bridge Health Campus. He was born in Kokomo to the late L.M. “Bill” and Goldie “Doris” (Patterson) Kirtley.

A memorial service will be conducted by Voss & Sons Funeral Service at Northview Christian Church (623 N. State Rd 39, Danville, IN 46122) on September 21, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation prior to service starting at 9:00 a.m. Dr. Kirtley will be interred at Lizton K of P Cemetery.

Dr. Kirtley was a 1947 graduate of Danville High School, 1951 graduate of Indiana University and 1955 graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine. He was raised in Danville, Indiana and came back to practice medicine in the community in 1958; he served the Hendricks County community until moving to Seymour in 2008.

Over his 50-year career, Dr. Kirtley and Dr. Lloyd Terry were partners in family practice and were the first full time emergency physicians at Hendricks County Hospital. Dr. Kirtley served as Hendricks County Coroner, Director of Emergency Services at Hendricks County Hospital then as Director of Health Tracks medical services before retiring in 2005.

He was proud of having delivered over 2200 babies during his career and enjoyed providing free sports physicals for over 30 years to Danville Community High School athletes. Dr. Kirtley was inducted into the DCHS Alumni Hall of Fame in 2005 and honored with the naming of Terry/Kirtley Boulevard for service to area residents.

Dr. Kirtley was a member of the American Medical Association, Indiana State Medical Association, Hendricks County Medical Society, Western Star Masonic Lodge #26 for over 60 years, a 60 year member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, president of the Danville High School Building Corporation and a founding member of Danville Little League.

He is survived by his children, Betsey (Kipp) Thompson, Bob (Julie) Kirtley and Dr. Bill (Laura) Kirtley; grandchildren, Marissa (Larry) Peacock, Evan Thompson, Adam (Ellyn) Kirtley, Ashley Kirtley, Andrew Kirtley and Connor Kirtley; great-grandsons, Teddy Peacock and Nolan Peacock; and sister, Mary Ann (Bob) Fleece.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Patricia Kirtley Cox and brother-in-law, Henry Cox.
