Earning a card

Thumbs up to Chris Baker, a professional golfer from Brownstown, who earned his 2019-20 PGA card this past weekend by tying for fourth Monday in the Korn Ferry Tour’s Tour Championship in Newburgh. Baker’s finish placed him 15th in the tour final standings with the top 25 advancing to the PGA Tour. The 105th PGA season begins with the A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier this coming week in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

Doubling down

Thumbs up to Double Down Outreach for receiving the Jackson County Community Service Council’s Community Service Award. Karen Browning is lead minister and Chad Browning is outreach coordinator for the organization, which has three missions: Sharing the love of God with everyone; feeding the body’s needs through food, skills and job training, clothing and other things; and feeding the spirit’s needs through love, fellowship, encouragement, belief in the individual and God’s Word. More than 40 volunteers help carry out that mission. For information about Double Down Outreach, including receiving assistance, volunteering or making a donation, call 877-325-3696 or visit facebook.com/doubledownoutreach.

Post returns

Thumbs up to everyone who played a role in the recent reopening of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1083 in Crothersville. The post closed March 23 because of financial issues, but its doors were reopened July 29, thanks to those people’s efforts to help hammer down the post’s debts.
