Police arrested a man who was a suspect in several burglaries in Hamilton Township.
Jonathan Thomas Godsey, 32, of Seymour faces two Level 5 felony charges of burglary and a Level 6 felony charge of possession of stolen property.
According to a news release from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Sheriff Rick Meyer was patrolling in the area of Hamilton Township on Wednesday when he located Godsey driving and conducted a traffic stop. Meyer was familiar with Godsey and knew he was a suspect in several burglaries, police said.
Meyer arrested Godsey and transported him to the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown, where he was booked in at 1:49 p.m. Wednesday without bond.
In June, Officer Brad Barker learned about two separate burglaries that occurred Feb. 23 and April 25 in rural Hamilton Township. He was told Godsey committed the burglaries, was shown where they took place and was told where some of the stolen property could be located, according to the news release.
Barker then received a search warrant, and when officers executed it at Godsey’s home in the 1300 block of East County Road 300N in the Shieldstown area, they found multiple stolen items from the burglaries.
Police took those items back to the sheriff’s department in Brownstown to be processed. That included power tools, hand tools and parts from a truck that was stolen during one of the burglaries, police said.
About a month ago, the sheriff’s department received information from the Indiana State Police Laboratory in Indianapolis with evidence collected at the scene of a burglary at SpringHill Camps. Police said the evidence showed Godsey was a suspect in the Feb. 23 burglary.
