Jackson County Reunion to take place at Black Swan Lake

Instead of having a typical class reunion, some local residents have decided to throw a bigger event and are inviting everyone from Jackson County.

Mike Cox and Don Burton, both of Freetown, are the organizers behind the inaugural Jackson County Reunion.

The family-friendly event will take place Friday and Saturday at Black Swan Lake, 1181 N. County Road 875W, Medora.

There will be live music beginning at 6 p.m. Friday and a pitch-in lunch at noon Saturday. Camping is available.

Performing artists include Bradley Cole, Taylor Anderson, Brook Cole, Lucas Doty, Heather McGrath, Maria Poore, James McGrath, Josh Keefer, Rusty Henderson, Don Burton, Spec MacQuayde, Hagan Reynolds, James Lane, Josh Lane, Jerry Henson, Amber Hatfield, Junior A. Bowers, Daniel Taylor, Sean Jennings, Derek Gillis and Mike Cox.

Admission is free, but a freewill offering will be taken.

To honor classmates who have passed away, there will be a memorial wall set up to post pictures and write memories.

Cox, a 1987 graduate of Brownstown Central High School and former Medora resident, said it has been several years since his class has had a reunion.

"All of us have many friends from other classes and other towns in Jackson County," he said. "Many of us have not seen each other in years, even decades. None of us are getting any younger, and the times are not getting any easier. Coming together as friends and as a community is extremely important."
