Celebrating centenarians

Thumbs up to Covered Bridge Health Campus residents Helen Hardesty and Dennis Durkoop who both recently celebrated their 100th birthdays. It’s a milestone rarely reached and one worthy of celebrating with more than cake and ice cream.

Faithful servant

Thumbs up to 79-year-old Irma Darlage of Seymour who has played the organ at Zion Lutheran Church since its inception 60 years ago. A related thumbs up to those who founded the church 60 years ago and those who have kept it vibrant since that time.

Seymour High School sophomore Lillie Wessel also receives a thumbs-up for exhibiting Francisco, which won champion spot barrow senior showmanship. Jenna Klosterman, who was champion intermediate landrace gilt showman at the fair with Lola, also earned a thumbs up along with her sister, Mallory Klosterman, who was champion intermediate landrace barrow showman with her pig, Spot On.

Playground donation

Thumbs up to members of Jackson County ABATE who recently donated three pieces of playground equipment to the Jackson County Head Start facility at Freeman Field in Seymour. The cycle-go-round, teeter-totter and bench were purchased with money left over from ABATE’s annual Shari Stahl Memorial Toy Run and Christmas party for Head Start kids and their siblings. The equipment cost around $2,100 and was installed by volunteers from Cummins, Valeo and Ruler, who also deserve a thumbs up.

Project Stepping Stone

Thumbs up to Seymour High School junior David Juarez, seniors Haidy Romero De Gante and Hannah Romero De Gante and 2019 graduate Maria Lara Lopez who all received scholarships to the Project Stepping Stone educational program for Indiana’s top Latino/Hispanic students this summer.
