Mr. Donald L. Burke, 96, of Seymour, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2019 at Covered Bridge Health Campus. He was born in Seymour to the late George J. and Gertrude (Lewis) Burke.

Funeral prayer service will be at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Wednesday, August 28 at 2 pm with Deacon Mike East officiating. Burial will follow at St. Ambrose Catholic Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour.

Family and friends may call at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Wednesday from 12 noon until time of service.

On July 20, 1939, he married Geneva (Wetzel) Burke; she preceded him in death on October 3, 2005. He worked at Arvin’s for 34 years before retiring from Seymour Manufacturing. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed spending Sundays at his daughter’s home.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army 26th Field Artillery Battalion, serving in WWII at Normandy and Battle of the Bulge as a Cannoner. He earned an EAME Theater Ribbon with 4 Bronze Stars and an American Theater Ribbon for his service.

Donald is survived by his daughter, Janet (Marion) Scott; grandchildren, Angela (Dan) Rosio, Lori K. Scott, Patrick (Heather) Scott, Gregory D. Scott; great-grandchildren, Katie Rosio, Matt Rosio, William Meyer, Thomas Meyer, Tinsley Meyer, Marshall Scott, Ivan Medina, Izac Medina; sister, Joan (James) Matthews; and beloved Bulldog, Yogi.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Donald Burke, Jr.; granddaughter, Mary Caroline Scott; brother, James Burke; and sister, Shirley Johnson.

Memorials may be written to St. Vincent DePaul Society or Riley Children’s Hospital, in care of Voss & Sons Funeral Service.

The family would like to thank Warren and Alice Fisher, Ken and Sandy Layton and Mike and Carol Russell for never forgetting him.
