A Seymour woman remains hospitalized for injuries she sustained in a fire reported to police Friday evening.

R. Jean Brock, 85, was listed in fair condition Sunday afternoon, a representative with Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital said.

Brenda G. Jackson, 64, also of Seymour was in the home at the time of the fire, but has since been released. They had both been listed in serious condition upon arrival to the hospital Friday, police said.

Both were airlifted and treated for smoke inhalation and burns following a fire in the 2000 block of Lakeview Drive in the Oxmoor housing addition, Lt. Adam Nicholson with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department said.

The fire was reported at 8:12 p.m. Friday.

The fire damaged multiple areas of the home, police said.

One of the women told police that a cigarette could have been the cause of the fire. An official cause has not been determined as the fire is still under investigation.

County Officer Brad Barker responded to the scene and was assisted by Officer Jordan Hawn, Jackson Washington Volunteer Fire Department, Seymour Fire Department, Vernon Township Volunteer Fire Department and Jackson County EMS.
