Two listed in serious condition following fire

Two Seymour women are listed in serious condition following a fire reported Friday evening, police report.

R. Jean Brock, 85, and Brenda G. Jackson, 64, were airlifted to Indiana University Methodist Hospital following a fire in the 2000 block of Lakeview Drive in the Oxmoor housing addition, Lt. Adam Nicholson with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department said.

The fire has since been put out. It was reported at 8:12 p.m.

Nicholson said both women suffered from smoke inhalation. One of the women told police that a cigarette could have been the cause of the fire. The official cause has not been determined as the fire is still under investigation.

Nicholson both also had burn injuries. He added Brock and Jackson’s families have been notified of the situation.

County Officer Brad Barker responded to the scene and was assisted by Officer Jordan Hawn, Jackson Washington Volunteer Fire Department, Seymour Fire Department, Vernon Township Volunteer Fire Department and Jackson County EMS.
