A 21-year-old Seymour man was arrested after police said he battered a woman and fled his home.

Alfredo Sebastian faces a preliminary Level 6 felony charge of domestic battery in the presence of a minor following an incident reported to police Tuesday.

Seymour police were called at 9:37 a.m. to the 100 block of Village Circle Avenue in Village Green Mobile Home Park.

Police Chief Bill Abbott said Sebastian was intoxicated when he returned to his residence and could not find his cellphone.

He began to argue with a woman, who is pregnant, and then moved toward a child in the home.

The woman feared he would hurt the child and stepped between the two, Abbott said.

That’s when police said Sebastian battered the woman.

By the time police arrived, Abbott said Sebastian had left the home.

Officers drove by the home at 2:51 p.m. to check on the woman and saw the vehicle Sebastian had been driving when he left the home after the incident.

When police knocked on the door, Sebastian answered and spoke to police.

“During that questioning, he said there was an argument but that he couldn’t remember whether he hit her or not,” Abbott said.

Officers Armando Pasillas and Derrick Shelley responded to the incident.

Sebastian was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 4:13 p.m. without bond.

A Level 6 felony is punishable between six months and two and a half years.
