Pig in the Park to benefit community

Seymour Noon Lions Club’s annual Pig in the Park and Family Fun Fair will take over Gaiser Park on Saturday.

In its ninth year, the event is a popular and successful fundraiser for the club, which uses the money to support its community service projects.

Tickets may be purchased in advance from any Seymour Noon Lions Club member or at the park on the day of the event. Ticket packages and sponsorships are available.

Money raised will benefit Anchor House Family Assistance Center and Pantry, Boys and Girls Club of Seymour, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Indiana, Community Provisions of Jackson County Inc., Girls Inc. of Jackson County, Child Care Network and other service organizations.

From noon to 4 p.m., pulled pork dinners, consisting of a sandwich, baked beans, chips, dessert and a drink, will be available for $6.50.

The park will be filled with free activities and crafts for kids of all ages, bouncy houses, basketball shoots and live music.

Community agency groups will have information booths, and there will be a touch-a-truck display for children featuring a variety of vehicles.

The Seymour High School archery team also will be attending to demonstrate their shooting skills, and the Boys and Girls Club will be selling ice cream cups for $1.

The event typically raises more than $3,000, event chairman Richard Beatty said.

“It’s a good way for the community to come together and help out,” he said. “We’d like to pack the park and get more groups involved.”

Two whole pigs will be cooked, providing more than 200 meals, he said.

Sponsors for the event include Premier Ag, Duke Energy, Royalty Companies, Pepsi Co. and Jay C Food Stores.

“Without them, we couldn’t put it on,” Beatty said.
