» What items do you sell at the farmers market?

We sell a variety of breakfast burritos: Smoked sausage with eggs, potato and cheese; chorizo with eggs, potato and cheese; bacon with egg, potato and cheese; and veggie with eggs, potato, cheese, tomato, bell peppers and onions.

» Where is your business located?

We are a mobile food truck, so we are all over town, but we work out of Mi Casa Mexican Restaurant here in Seymour at 101 S. Broadway St.

» How long have you been producing the items you sell at market?

We’ve been making and selling burritos out of our food truck for four years.

» Do you operate your food truck full time?

Yes, we operate the food truck/catering full time, and we operate year-round.

» What made you want to start your business?

It has always been our dream to operate our own business, and several years ago, we were blessed with such an opportunity. My sister and brother-in-law, who own Mi Casa Mexican Restaurant, allowed us to operate our food truck business out of their restaurant without any cost to us in order to help establish our business. With their vast experience in the food industry, we have been very blessed and successful.

» What about the market makes it beneficial to you as a business?

The farmers market has been a tremendous opportunity for us because of the foot traffic it generates and the great support we have received from customers.

» What do you enjoy most about selling your goods locally?

On a weekly basis, we get the privilege of interacting with our local customers that come out and support us. That’s probably one of our biggest enjoyments, just getting to visit with everyone that comes out to the market.

» Why do you think folks should shop the market?

Everyone should make it a point to come out to the market and get some home-grown fresh fruits, vegetables and great food. I think it is critical to support the small business owners that make America great.

Wonning Produce

Owners: Louis Wonning and Sabrina Burton, Brynn Burton, Judy Wonning and Seth Wonning

Home: The Wonnings have been selling at the farmers market since 2013.

» What items do you sell at the farmers market?

We sell primarily watermelon, cantaloupe, sweet corn and both decorative and edible pumpkins and squash.

» Where is your farm located?

Wonning Produce is located 5 miles northwest of Seymour in the Madden Hill area. We operate an honor system stand out of our barn that has a giant watermelon painted on it.

» How long have you been farming?

I’m not really sure what age I was, but I was young when I started. I always enjoyed growing things and enjoyed hearing my grandmother tell stories from when she was a kid working in melon fields with her dad in Vallonia in the 1930s.

» Do you farm full time or is this a side business or hobby for you?

We both work full-time jobs, so farming is a side gig that we choose to do and find enjoyment in.

» What made you want to start your farm?

I have always enjoyed the outdoors and working with the soil. I have always been intrigued that you can grow a sweet, sugar-tasting watermelon from a simple seed and the sandy-soiled hills.

» What about the market makes it beneficial to you as a farmer?

The Seymour market is great because it is close to the farm.

» What do you enjoy most about selling your goods locally?

I enjoy being able to sell locally grown food to local people just hours after it has been picked.

» Why do you think folks should shop the market?

I think the market is a good place to get fresher, higher-quality food than anywhere else. It also becomes a great place for friends and neighbors to meet.
