A 35-year-old Crothersville man was arrested after police said he hit a woman, would not let her leave his home and followed her after she left.

Daniel L. Wiesman faces a Level 5 felony charge of domestic battery and a Level 6 felony charge of criminal confinement following an incident June 13. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of resisting law enforcement.

Wiesman was arrested on a warrant signed by Jackson Circuit Judge Richard W. Poynter.

Poynter scheduled a jury trial for 8:30 a.m. Dec. 17 during a hearing Monday.

The incident that led to Wiesman’s arrest began when he became angry with a woman when she tried to leave his residence, according to a probable cause affidavit signed by Crothersville Police Department Officer John A. Jones.

The woman had brought him money for food but told him she had to leave for work.

Wiesman told the woman she could not leave, spit on her and pulled her by the hair to prevent her from walking out the front door, according to court documents filed June 20.

The woman eventually was able to get out and tried to get to her vehicle, but Wiesman blocked her car door. He also grabbed her by the arms to prevent her from leaving, Jones wrote.

He continued to hit the woman and tried to get in her vehicle as she left. Wiesman followed her to another residence but left after the woman yelled through the door for him to leave.

Wiesman was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 8:04 p.m. Monday and was being held on a $2,000 cash bond.

A Level 5 felony is punishable between one and six years upon conviction.
