Seymour man dies in crash on U.S. 31

The Indiana State Police confirmed Monday that a 26-year-old Seymour man died following a crash Friday morning north of Seymour.

Zachary R. Trotter died after his 2000 Chevrolet van was driving south on U.S. 31 near County Road 700N when it left the road for an unknown reason, struck a culvert and hit a tree head-on, according to the Indiana State Police Versailles Crash Reconstruction Team investigation completed by Trooper Korry Clark.

Trotter was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Jackson County Coroner’s Office, according to a news release from Sgt. Stephen Wheeles, public information officer for the Indiana State Police Versailles Post.

The investigation is ongoing, and toxicology results are pending at this time.

Troopers Ed Olibo and Seth Davidson with the Versailles Post initially investigated the crash and were assisted by officers with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and personnel with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services, Seymour Fire Department, Redding Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Jackson County Coroner’s Office.

Trotter’s funeral is at 11 a.m. Thursday at Woodlawn Life Celebration Centre in Seymour. He was a 2011 graduate of Seymour High School.
