Shields Park Pool set to open Saturday

The Shields Park Pool in Seymour will open for the summer season Saturday.

Public swimming sessions are available from noon to 5 p.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from noon to 5 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Daily admission is $4 for adults and children age 6 and older in the afternoons and $2 in the evenings. Admission for children ages 3 to 5 is $2 for both sessions. Season passes are $40.

Every Tuesday evening is a free family swim night for children and their parents or guardians.

Children under 10 and nonswimmers must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

The pool will be closed during inclement weather and also July 12 through 14 for the annual Seymour Splash Invitational.

Swimming lessons are available through the Seymour Parks and Recreation Department. Private lessons and toddler/parent lessons also are available. Signups begin Tuesday at the pool office.

Aqua exercise programs available include shallow water exercise from 5 to 5:45 p.m. Wednesdays beginning June 5 and running through July 31. Deep water exercise will meet Wednesdays from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 11:05 to 11:50 a.m. beginning June 10 and running through July 31. The cost is $5 per class.

Water walking and lap swim are available from 11 a.m. to noon and 5 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The cost is $2.

The pool also will be the site for an American Red Cross lifeguard training course this summer. The course is required in order to obtain a lifeguard certificate.

The class will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon beginning June 4 and running through June 27. Participants must be at least 15 years old. The cost of the course is $175. Signups begin Tuesday at the pool office.

A standard first aid and community CPR course will meet from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning July 16 and running through July 25. The class is for anyone age 13 or older, and the cost is $100. Signups start Tuesday at the pool office.
