A wreck on Election Day left a Seymour couple seriously injured when their vehicle left the interstate and struck an overpass, police report.
Daniel L. Stone, 37, and Tiffany Stone, 35, were injured in that wreck reported to police around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday. There was no information available Wednesday about their conditions.
The wreck occurred when a 2011 GMC Acadia driven by Daniel Stone left the southbound lane of Interstate 65 for an unknown reason at the 47-mile-marker between Seymour and Uniontown and struck the New Farmington Road overpass, according to a news release from Sgt. Stephen Wheeles, public information officer for the Indiana State Police Versailles Post.
The vehicle overturned and came to rest in the left southbound lane of the interstate beneath the overpass, Wheeles said.
Daniel Stone was taken to Scott Memorial Health in Scottsburg before being transferred to University of Louisville Hospital.
Tiffany Stone was initially entrapped in the vehicle and was extricated by first responders, police said.
She was flown by St. Vincent StatFlight helicopter from the scene to University of Louisville Hospital.
The southbound lanes were shut down for about two hours as first responders cleared the scene and investigated the crash.
Wheeles said it is unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
