A 34-year-old woman was hurt after a turkey slammed through her windshield early Tuesday afternoon while she was driving on U.S. 50 between Brownstown and Seymour, police report.

Sgt. Stephen Wheeles with the Indiana State Police said Amberly Schroeder of Brownstown sustained facial cuts after the bird went through her windshield.

Photos from the scene showed her front windshield was shattered by the collision. The bird came through on the top corner of the driver’s side of the windshield.

No other vehicles were involved in the wreck, reported at 1:15 p.m. in the 2800 block of East U.S. 50.

Wheeles, public information officer for the Versailles Post, said motorists should be aware of the birds during the spring hunting season as they move frequently.

"Use caution as the birds are on the move and they can cause serious damage to vehicles," he said.

Wheeles said Schroeder was treated for her injuries.
