Jonathan H. “Jon” Bevers, 65, of Columbus passed away Saturday, April 20, 2019. He was born in Seymour to the late Joe and Ida Belle (Mitchell) Bevers. Family and friends may gather at Voss & Sons Funeral Service in Seymour on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Jon’s interests kept him surrounded by nature. He was an avid golfer and bird watcher, and he had a deep love for the forests and scenery of southern Indiana. He also cared deeply for animals, volunteering at the Humane Society, caring for his longtime feline companions, Rosamund and Wilson, and taking his beloved Weimaraner, Sal, on long walks in the fields.

Jon graduated from Hanover College in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. In 1980, he graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine and completed his residency in psychiatry at the University of Louisville. He held the position of medical director at Bloomington Meadows and Columbus Behavioral Center.

Jon is survived by his children, Evan Bevers (Nicole Clouse) and Elliot Bevers, and his nephews Tim Grantham, Scott Grantham, Todd Grantham, Jeff Grantham, nieces Rachel Towriss, Sara Hildreth, and Hannah Cash, and 17 great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Mark Bevers, and sister Nancy Grantham.
