ELIZABETHTOWN

Mr. Gene Joseph Knott, 87, of Elizabethtown, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus. He was born in Jackson County to the late John L. and Mayme (Lebline) Knott.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Seymour on Monday at 10 a.m. with Father Dan Staublin officiating, assisted by Deacon Mike East. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by Columbus Honor Guard.

Family and friends may call at Voss & Sons Funeral Service in Seymour on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. and Monday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church from 9 am until time of Mass.

On April 8, 1955, in Fairland, IN, he married Joanne Ruth Job; she preceded him in death on June 8, 2007.

Gene was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Columbus. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of American Legion Post 89 and Marine Corps League of Columbus.

Gene was employed at Arvin Industries for more than 30 years, starting as a draftsman and eventually serving as vice president for the consumer electronics and housewares divisions. He traveled extensively in his career, becoming friends with colleagues in Asia and Europe. He enjoyed playing softball, cards and bowling with his friends from Arvin. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors watching birds and wildlife, farming, and flying his 1950 Cessna 140A.

Gene is survived by his sons Michael (Julie) Knott and Andrew (Denise Baker) Knott, step-daughter Terri (Peter) Gould; granddaughters Sarah Knott, Lisa Knott, Aimee (Phillip) Rigsby and Ariadne Blayde; nephew Steve (Martha) Knott; great-nephews, Christopher (Monica) Knott and Benjamin Knott; and great-great niece Kennedy Knott.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers Lawrence, Harold and Patrick Knott; and sisters Mary Waggoner, Martha, Katherine and Josephine Knott.

Memorials may be written to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, St. Bartholomew Catholic Church Columbus, or St. Ambrose Catholic Church, in care of Voss & Sons Funeral Service.
