Mary Patricia “Pat” Sweeney, age 79, of Brownstown passed away peacefully at her home on April 6, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.

Pat entered this life on May 27, 1939 in Brownstown, Indiana to the late Foster and Ruby (McCollum) McCory. She was a graduate of Brownstown High School and was a member of the National Honor’s Society.

On October 19, 1956 she married the love of her life, William “Bill” Sweeney at Brownstown First Baptist Church. From this union they were blessed with four children, William Douglas, Kimberly, Cathi and Mark.

Pat was a loving wife of over 62 years, a mother, and Nanny. She worked as a Secretary for the Jackson County Extension Office, and then for the US Forestry Service until she retired.

She loved playing the piano and this led to her playing the piano for over 50 years for the church that she loved, Brownstown First Baptist Church. She was very active in the Jackson County Democratic Party, and in her spare time she played volleyball and golf.

She leaves those to cherish her memories, her husband Bill, children, Doug Sweeney and his wife Debbie, Kimberly Sweeney, Cathi Wheeler and her husband Steve, and Mark Sweeney, five grandchildren, Stephanie Austin and her husband Eric, Danielle Sweeney, Kelly Hoevener and her husband Erick, Nathan Sweeney and his wife Samantha, and Chelsea Schmidt and her husband Mark, seven great-grandchildren, and a Sister-in-law, Judy McCory.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Foster Jr., James, and Larry.

A Funeral Service will be conducted by Zabel Funeral Home at Brownstown First Baptist Church on Thursday April 11, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Scott Erwin officiating.

Friends may call at Zabel Funeral Home of Brownstown on Wednesday April 10, 2019 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday after 10:00 a.m. until time of the service at the church.

Memorials may be given to the Brownstown First Baptist Church
