High flying

Thumbs-up to Devin Ramsey, who wrapped up his high school diving career with a second-place finish in the state meet Saturday in Indianapolis. That finish is sure to bode well for Ramsey’s future in the sport. A related thumbs-up to Owls junior Trevor Layne for his 18th-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke Friday in the preliminary round of the state finals.

Saluting fathers

Thumbs-up to all of the fathers who participated in the Head Start fatherhood program in Seymour. The free initiative is now open to any male in the community with preschool-age children. It is designed to give male father figures the opportunity to spend quality, dedicated time with their children and learn how to be better dads by sharing their experiences with other men in a positive and supportive environment.

A similar thumbs-up goes to all of the fathers, stepdads, grandpas, uncles, older brothers, stepbrothers, cousins, neighbors, family friends and other men who took the time to attend the Father Daughter Dance on Feb. 16 at Girls Inc. of Jackson County in Seymour. The event, conducted annually since 1984, attracted 616 people, which was nearly 140 more people than in 2018.

Attention getting

Thumbs-up to Seymour High School’s Teens for Change group and the two Jobs for America’s Graduates programs for creating a Clothesline Project to draw attention to the extent of domestic violence in Indiana.

Risky business

Thumbs-down to motorists who make the decision to flee from police instead of stopping. They not only put themselves at risk but also put the lives of police and innocent bystanders at risk.
