The Cougars maintained the lead in the third quarter, but the Tigers answered almost every bucket.

The Tigers started the fourth quarter strong.

CHS went on a 10-4 run through the first five minutes of the final period to lead 46-43 with 2:16 remaining.

A jumper by Jack Marksberry pulled the Cougars within one, with 44 seconds left, before Trinity had to intentionally foul the Tigers’ Lane Wienhorst.

Wienhorst hit both attempts and the Tigers got a stop on the Cougars’ next possession. Wienhorst pulled down the rebound on Trinity’s miss, was fouled, and hit both freebies to push the Tigers lead to 50-45 with 23 seconds left.

The Tigers were able to hang on from there to advance to Friday night’s 7:30 p.m. semifinals game against Edinburgh. Trinity had six turnovers in the fourth quarter.

A 3-pointer by Jayvin Spurgeon and free throws by Caleb Sturgill closed the margin to 68-62, with 34 ticks left, but the Hornets couldn’t recover.

Seniours led the Hornets with 19 points, Myers had 17 and Sullivan chipped in 10. Ethan Stuart topped the Hillopers with 21 points and Grote had 19.

The Hornets were outrebounded 27-23, and had 17 turnovers to Shawe’s 16.

Medora was called for 24 fouls while the Hilltoppers had 16. In the second half, the Hornets totaled 15 fouls.

“We had Skylar (Jones), J.D. (Fish), and Keaton (Seniours) foul out and Owen Sullivan was thrown out (on a technical foul with 4:27 left) of the game,” Medora coach Mark Morin said. “ I told them if I had known that would happen, I would’ve guessed we’d lose by 20. We kept it competitive the entire game. I didn’t think we played all that bad. The way it was officiated, it favored Shawe’s style of play.”

The Hornets have not won a sectional game since the 1996-97 season.

Shawe Memorial will play West Washington in the 6 p.m. game of Friday’s semifinals.
