Tyler Goecker had Trinity’s other 3-pointer and finished with 14 points and eight rebounds.

“In practice, we do that (shoot 3-pointers),” Trinity coach Brian Stuckwisch said. “I’ve been waiting for this game all year long, to see them shoot like this because we all knew we could, but we just never did in a game. It was an excellent night, a good confidence builder, a real good game all the way around.”

Stuckwisch said the Pirates (9-12) pressed his team.

“When (the Pirates) came down, I don’t think they were all on the same page. That one time. we thought it might be a matchup zone,” he said. “We were moving the ball pretty quick, we got it to the right spot, made some good decisions and hit some shots.”

Trinity shot 30-for-53 for the night, and Charlestown shot 18-for-40.

The Pirates held a 13-10 lead at the end of the first period. Courtland Black made two 3-pointers for the Pirates, while A.J. Goecker had two baskets for Trinity.

After the Pirates converted a three-point play, the Cougars went on a 7-0 run with a fadeaway 10-footer by Tyler Goecker boosting Trinity’s lead to 26-16.

Tyler Goecker made a steal and drove for a layup to give the Cougars a 29-24 lead at the half.
