A Vallonia man’s attempt to evade police by driving into floodwaters and then swimming away late Friday night ended with a trip to the Jackson County Jail, police report.
Samuel Steven Cornett, 26, was booked into the jail in Brownstown at 12:29 a.m. Saturday and being held on initial charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle causing a substantial risk to another person, resisting law enforcement and reckless driving-high speed.

After his arrest, police were able to determine Cornett also was wanted on an Orange County warrant for robbery.
