Police responding to water rescue at refuge

Jackson County police are responding to a water rescue at the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge, according to police scanner communications.

The vehicle is in the water along the auto tour and is taking in water, police said. Dispatchers said there is about 18 inches of water in the vehicle and the vehicle was not in danger of being swept.

Conservation officers were called to bring an airboat to assist with the rescue, but then were called off when police discovered the depth of the water.

At least one woman is reported to be in the vehicle.
