Seymour girls finish fourth at sectional, Kleber advances in diving

FLOYDS KNOBS

The promising youth of the Seymour girls swimming team was on display Saturday at the Floyd Central Sectional.

The Owls took fourth as a team behind a fourth-place 400-yard freestyle relay team and two fifth-place relay squads.

"I was really proud of how we did today," Seymour coach Dave Boggs said. "We were trying to chase New Albany for third. We knew that was going to be a tough task. Ninety-two percent season-best times and the two that missed barely missed."

Senior Brett Kleber advanced to Tuesday’s diving regional at Bloomington North with a fourth-place finish with 239.35 points.

The 200 medley relay of sophomore August Hunt, sophomore Abby Boyt, junior Macy Traylor and freshman Samantha Jacobi started the meet off with a fifth-place result in a time of 2 minutes, 7.74 seconds.

The fourth-place 400 freestyle relay team got Seymour’s best finish of the day with sophomore Sandy Cerino, Boyt, senior Marcegui Vasquez and freshman Maren McClure teaming up.

McClure had the best individual finish of the day, finishing sixth in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:13.95. Cerino was eighth in the 100 freestyle.

"We have such a wide variety of girls on this team from inexperience to some experience, more variety than I’ve ever seen before. We had a lot of enthusiasm on deck," Boggs said.

Vasquez took ninth in the 200 freestyle in her final high school meet while also contributing to the fourth-place 400 freestyle relay team.
