Seymour choir students earn 20 gold ratings at festival

Student-musicians from Seymour High School participated in the Vocal/Piano District Solo and Ensemble Festival on Saturday at Floyd Central High School.

Of the 30 events from SHS that attended, 20 were awarded gold in their respective rooms.

Musicians receiving gold were McKenzie Wirtz, Michael Guinn, Ella Andres (x2), Hunter Johns (x2) Ali Klakamp, Derick Sowers (x2), Selena Peters, Joslin Perry, Cierra Newcomb, Amanda Massengale (x4), Chloe Hudson (x2 and a perfect score in solo), Noni McGrew (x2), Bryce Hatton, Angelina Corya, Liam Combs (x2), Anna Massengale (x2), Jessica Sanchez, Alex Garrison, Gavyn Stagnolia, Brice Sipes, Dylan Johnson, Curtis Nowling, Grace Beach, Juan Silva, Payton Toepfert, Lexi York and Brianna Valentine.

On Feb. 16, nine soloists and the chamber choir will head to the state-level contest at Perry Meridian High School.

Kyle Karum is the director of choral music at Seymour High School.
