Brewer to be inducted into Brownstown athletic HOF

Former Brownstown Centra student-athlete Josh Brewer will be inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday.

Brewer, a 1994 graduate, competed on the Braves’ golf and basketball teams.

In golf, Brewer was a state qualifier three times. He was the state runner-up in his senior season, and also the recipient of the IHSAA State Mental Attitude Award that year.

He made the All-State First Team all four years of his career.

Brewer was an individual regional champ in ’93 and helped the Braves to three Mid-Southern Conference championships from ’92-’94.

He was an MSC tournament medalist three teams and made the All-MSC team all four years of his career. 

Brewer was Academic All-State in ’94 for basketball and helped the Braves to a sectional championship that season.

He golfed at Indiana University from ’95-’98, and has been the Women’s Head Golf Coach at the University of Georgia since 2012.

The ceremony will take place between the JV and varsity boys basketball game during the Braves’ home game against Clarksville. The JV game is slated to start at 1 p.m.

Regional wrestling brackets released

Seven members of the Seymour High School wrestling team will compete in the Jeffersonville Regional on Saturday.

The brackets were recently released by the IHSAA for the weight classes in the tournament.

Seymour’s Jacob Rotert (160), Alejandro Sachinas (195) and Gabe Ramirez (285) enter the tournament as sectional champions. Ben Kriete (126), Nate Banister (132), Colt Hensley (138) and Brody Shipley (220) all finished top-four at last week’s sectional to stay alive in the postseason.

The Owls’ lone No. 1 seed, Ramirez (24-8), opens against Salem’s Aaron Hollen (15-10).

Rotert (28-5) enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed for his weight class. He will face Providence’s Nathan Grantz (25-8) in the first round.

Sachinas (21-3) goes up against North Harrison’s Landon King (10-16) while Shipley (13-17) faces No. 1 seed Dalton Pinaire (Eastern, 16-0).

Hensley (10-10) goes up against Charlestown’s Ben Phillips (23-7).

Kriete (25-14) will face a No. 2 seed, Eastern’s Mason Martin (25-8), and Banister (16-15) takes on Jeff No. 1 seed Connor Gilles (24-11).
