North Vernon police arrested six people after a reported overdose in the 400 block of Fourth Street.

The overdose was reported at 8:13 a.m. Saturday, and when officers arrived just before paramedics, they were told a man had already received naloxone, said Sgt. Andrew Richmond, department spokesman.

Officers noticed drug-related items in plain view in several parts of the house, Richmond said.

Everyone inside the house was detained, and the overdose victim recovered and refused further medical treatment, Richmond said.

Officers confiscated several dime-sized nuggets of compressed marijuana and part of a prescription-only Xanax tablet, Richmond said.

Arrested at the scene and taken to the Jennings County Jail were:

Zion Phillips, 19, of North Vernon, misdemeanor charge of visiting a common nuisance

Officer Seth Beville sought and obtained a search warrant for the residence based on the items in plain view. Beville and other officers from the North Vernon Police Department and K-9 Zobi searched the home and located a large amount of marijuana, a large amount of prescription pills not stored in their prescribed containers, heroin and marijuana smoking devices, Richmond said.

Officers also seized nine firearms, including two shotguns, two semi-automatic rifles and five handguns, Richmond said. Officers also seized more than $20,000 in cash that was hidden in a mattress.

Following the search, a sixth suspect was arrested:

Darrell Nelson, 19, of North Vernon, felony maintaining a common nuisance, felony dealing in a controlled substance, felony dealing in a legend drug, misdemeanor dealing in marijuana, misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia and misdemeanor possession of alcohol by a minor

The suspects arrested for visiting a common nuisance were being held at the Jennings County Jail in lieu of $605 cash bond. Suspects charged with felonies were held on $1,055 bond with the exception of Nelson, whose bond was set at $2,055 because he was out of jail with a case still pending on a prior charge.
