Seymour bowlers win conference championship

Going into the final regular season meet, at Striker’s Lane in Vevay, Seymour’s boys bowling team was tied with Columbus North for the Southeastern Indiana Conference lead at 10-2.

In the first baker match, Seymour topped Scottsburg 10-0 while North defeated Madison 7-3. The wins set up the final, position round, match between Seymour and North, tied at 11-2.

After 10 close baker games, the match finished in a tie 5-5.

Seymour won the match and the conference title on the tiebreaker of total pins, 1757 to 1753.

Bowling for the Seymour boys over the weekend were Trevor Lawson, Andre Sides, Colton Hayes, Luke Lanam, Kenny Kelly, and Trey Morris. Other boys that have contributed greatly to the 12-2 record were Trace Cooper, Tyrell Duncan, and Jake Schlatterer.

The Seymour girls, who have been short two bowlers all season, continued to compete well, taking several games in their two matches Saturday.

The team of three freshmen — Angelina Corya, Lilly Kelly, and Micah Maschino — have been very competitive all season despite their 2-12 record.

Prior to bowling the conference honored its seniors and our All-Conference Teams.

Seymour has three seniors this season: Sides, Hayes, and Cooper.

All three have been with the team since middle school.

The All-Conference teams included four from Seymour: Maschino, Lawson, Hayes, and Cooper.

Shannon Kelly, Toby Lawson, and Robert Field coach the Owls.

This Saturday the conference bowling sectional will be held at at Columbus Bowling Center.

The singles competition will kick off the event with team bowling to follow.

Two boys teams and one girls team will advance to the regional with the possibility of a wild-card draw in both division.

In singles, seven boys and five girls will advance to the regional.

“The teams have put themselves into a good position for the singles competition in next Saturday’s sectional,” coach Kelly said.
