Carolyn Jean Schroer, 82, of Columbus, passed away in her home on Friday December 28, 2018. Carolyn was born September 23, 1936 in Miami County to the late Chester and Cleo (Antrim) Durkes.

Carolyn graduated from Converse-Jackson High School with the class of 1954 in Converse, IN. She attended Manchester College and graduated in 1958. She was a home demonstration agent in Dekalb County for a short time, then married the late John Lee Schroer on August 16, 1959, and moved to Bartholomew County, becoming a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church White Creek. Carolyn and John celebrated 56 years of marriage together. They were blessed with three children, Bryan John (Linda) Schroer of Columbus, Joy Ellen (David) Harrison of Agoura Hills, California, and Susan Marie (Paul) Sokolowski of Clearwater, Florida. Carolyn also leaves behind five grandchildren, Abby Schroer, Tom Schroer, Emily Harrison, Ryan Harrison, and Leland Sokolowski.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, her parents, and her three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2019 at St. John’s Lutheran Church at White Creek with Pastor Justin Whitmore officiating. Following the services Carolyn will be laid to rest in the church cemetery. Friends are invited to a time of visitation from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, 3855 25th Street, Columbus, Indiana, and an additional time of visitation that will be held from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday.

The family has requested that memorial contributions in Carolyn’s memory be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church White Creek (Building Fund), White Creek Lutheran School, or to Trinity Lutheran High School.
