Salary change proposed for superintendent

CROTHERSVILLE

Time came to update the contract for the superintendent of Crothersville Community School Corp.

During a meeting Monday night in the central administration building, Terry Goodin said he currently is under a superintendent contract and a teacher contract.

He said it was an old-style contract where different things were negotiated, and the superintendent wasn’t falling into the same category as teachers. With a change in state law, he said it needed to be changed.

Goodin said his evaluation contract needed to be publicly stated and advertised so people are informed.

At the end of Monday’s meeting, board President Bob Spicer opened a public hearing to take any comments from the public.

Several people attended the meeting, but no one spoke in favor of or against the contract.

After the meeting was adjourned, the public had a chance to address the board and Goodin.

Tiffany Reynolds, who was elected to the school board in the Nov. 6 general election and will start her term in January, asked Goodin to explain why a new contract was being negotiated. That’s when he shared the new requirements by the state.

“This is all brand-new, first time around for us,” Spicer said before having Goodin explain the changes.

If approved, the contract will change the salary from $134,387 to $135,487 effective July 1 of this year to June 30, 2019.

Also, the contract for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 school years will be increased the same as the average of the teachers’ raise for each of those school years, and the proposed contract would include a benefits package of $48,975.

The board will conduct a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 20 in the central administration building to vote on the contract.
