To the editor:

Columbus discovered American, right? Of course he did. 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue. Don’t tell me about Eric and his mongrels. I don’t want to hear it. Don’t try to mix up the facts.

Johannes Gutenberg printed the first Bible on a printing press. Of course he did. I lecture about that several times a week at the Museum of Antique Printing. I don’t want to hear about the Fusts bunch. Don’t tell me they took over Gutenberg’s shop and finished the Bible. Bah … Don’t mess with the facts.

The Wright brothers flew the first flight at Kitty Hawk, right? Of course they did. Don’t listen to that bunch over at Dayton, Ohio, who say that was just a big kite and the first real flight was there at Dayton. Don’t confuse me with details. Kitty Hawk sounds better anyway.

Abe Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address. Of course he did. We all know that. I don’t want to hear about Edward Everett who gave the main address that lasted over two hours and Lincoln simply made a few appropriate remarks. Don’t try to mess with the facts.

Why do some people dig around and mess with the facts? Don’t confuse me. Facts are facts and that’s factual.
