Cougars fall to Cubs

MADISON — Madison held Trinity Lutheran to five points in the second quarter for a 78-56 win Saturday.

Trinity trailed 28-18 at halftime before getting outscored 24-19 in the third quarter and 26-19 in the fourth in the loss.

The Cougars shot 29 percent in the first half and 41.5 percent for the game (53 total attempts).

The Cougars (1-1) were led by 16 points from A.J. Goecker. Tyler Goecker chipped in 12 points and Aden Jones scored 12 for Trinity.

Four players scored in double figures for the Cubs (1-1), including Cooper Yancey (18), Luke Miller (16), Nick Center (12) and Mason Welsh (10).

Madison hit 10 total 3-pointers in the game.

Trinity will host Hauser (1-1) Tuesday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Cougars win third straight game

Trinity Lutheran posted a 46-41 win over Southwestern (Shelbyville) Saturday.

The Cougars build a 15-8 lead in the first quarter behind 12 points by sophomore Sydney Jaynes. Trinity led 22-20 at halftime and 34-29 going into the fourth quarter.

Both teams put up 12 points in the final eight minutes, as the Cougars hung on for the win.

Jaynes finished with 23 points, 13 blocks, nine assists and eight rebounds to lead Trinity, and Savannah Harweger had 18 points.

Trinity (3-2) will host Edinburgh Thursday before playing Providence at the Hoosier Gym, in Knightstown, Saturday afternoon.
