Seymour senior concludes long soccer career

If you want to know anything about playing youth and high school soccer ask Brayden Trinkle, who recently completed his career at Seymour High School.

“I started when I was six, and I played three or four years in the rec league,” he said. “Then I joined the Seymour Cyclones, and played until eighth grade, and then I joined the high school. The Cyclones and a lot of these players have been playing for multiple years, so it was good for us to stick together.

“I just enjoyed playing with my friends. It’s basically where all my friends are at. Those friendships are going to last forever.”

Trinkle said it was a special feeling helping the Owls win the Hoosier Hills Conference his sophomore and seniors seasons that included being unbeaten (7-0) in the HHC this fall.

His first three years of high school Trinkle played midfield. This fall, he split his time between defender and midfielder.

“When I played midfielder I was supporting the attack and distributing the balls out wide, and getting back on defense,” Trinkle said. “Whenever I played outside back I was a defender and I would get up in the attack and make runs to support the attack.”

Trinkle said he enjoyed marking opponents to try and get the ball away from the other team and playing at home.

“The home matches were great,” Trinkle said. “We had the home field, the fans were great and the energy they brought. We were used to playing on that (turf) surface from the practices. Some days it was 85-90 degrees. We were undefeated at home.”

The Owls attended a camp at University of Indianapolis during the summer and did a lot of team bonding there.

“It was very important,” Trinkle said. “We got to work with college coaches and other college players so we could see what we needed to do to be better players and the better team.”

Trinkle said he has enjoyed attending SHS.

“It’s given me multiple opportunities for my future,” he said. “I’ve taken a few dual credit courses here. I’ve had a lot of good teachers here that have helped me keep my grades up and keep me motivated.”
