Braves beat Rams

PAOLI — Brownstown Central posted a 49-40 non-conference victory over Class 2A No. 5 Paoli Saturday.

The Braves held the Rams to single-digit scoring in each of the first three quarters before holding off a late comeback.

Brownstown led 16-8 after eight minutes and 22-17 at the half.

In the third quarter, the Braves outscored the Rams 19-8 to build the lead. Tayler Garland drilled three 3-pointers in the period while Halle Hehman and Katherine Benter each chipped three points during the span.

While the Rams put up 17 points in the final quarter, the Braves were able to hang on for the win.

Garland and Ashley Schroer each scored 13 points to lead the Braves. Keaton Chastain topped the Rams with 19 points.

Eight different players finished with a basket for the Braves in the game.

Brownstown (2-1) will host Class A No. 5 Trinity Lutheran (1-1) on Tuesday.

Tigers fall to Bulldogs

ORLEANS — Orleans used a 36-point second half to edge Crothersville 55-47 Friday.

The Tigers (3-3) led 21-11 after eight minutes and 28-19 at intermission.

The visitors were outscored 19-10 in the third quarter and 17-9 in the fourth in the loss.

Piper Hensley led the Tigers with 21 points, with three 3-pointers, and Maddie Riley added nine.

CHS had 25 fouls to the Bulldogs’ 13. At the foul line, the Bulldogs (1-0) made 18 of 32 free throw attempts while the Tigers were 4-for-6.

The Tigers will travel to Borden on Tuesday for a Southern Athletic Conference game.
