The turnout for Jackson County has already surpassed totals for 2014, as 11,359 have already cast a ballot here for the 2018 midterm, officials report.

That figure includes the 4,577 who voted early, which was a record-setting turnout for the county.

Jackson County Clerk Amanda Lowery said that figure did not include numbers from Owen precinct. That precinct has 1,117 registered voters.

Lowery said the figure was taken at 2:15 p.m. today.

It has already outpaced the 2014 midterm election, when 10,725 – or 36 percent – of voters cast ballots. It’s still far below the 17,974 who voted in 2016 election, but those numbers are often higher because of presidential elections.

The polls will close at 6 p.m. so voters still have roughly three hours before the finally tally is made.
