Mary Helwig, 87, of Waymansville, Indiana passed away Oct. 22, 2018, at IU-Methodist Hospital after suffering a stroke.

Mary was born Feb. 20. 1931, to the late Claude Polley Sr. and Jeannette White.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Harlan James Helwig. They married on July 3, 1949 in Waymansville. Other survivors include three sons: Michael ‘Jim’ James (Debbie) Helwig of Vallonia, Gregory ‘Greg’ Helwig of Waymansville, and Jeffrey ‘Jeff’ (Ellen) Helwig of Texas; and her daughter, Jane Helwig (Todd) Folds of Greenwood ; daughter-in-law, Debbie Helwig of Waymansville; 11 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Mary is also survived by 5 of her 12 siblings: Theresa Morrow, Marilyn McKinney, John Polley, Belvia ‘Bud’ Polley, and William ‘Bill’ Polley. She was preceded in death by her son John Helwig.

Mary Helwig attended high school in Seymour, Indiana, and she became a career woman and mother of five. She worked for Cummins and retired from Arvin Industries, where she worked as the Ford account manager. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church Waymansville, Indiana.

Mary was known for her honesty, drive, perfectionism, and sense of humor. She loved to laugh. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her dog, Paco. She was generous with her family, and she loved them unconditionally. Her presence and love will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Waymansville with Pastor Erik Sorenson officiating. Friends may visit at the church from 10 a.m. until time of the service. Burial will take place at the St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Waymansville.
