Crothersville conducts fall sports awards program

CROTHERSVILLE

Maddie Riley, David Rose and Kaylyn Holman received most valuable player awards during the Crothersville fall sports awards program Thursday night.

Riley was honored in volleyball, while Rose and Holman were honored in cross-country.

Volleyball coach Kourtney Settle presented four special awards to Riley. In addition to receiving the MVP trophy, Riley was named to the All-Southern Athletic Conference team and received the serving and attacks awards for the Tigers.

Makayla Helt also was named All-SAC, and she received the setting award.

Kaitlin McVey was presented the serve receive award, Kennadi Lakins was the recipient of the mental attitude award and Bekah Cook received the blocking award.

Riley and McVey are seniors.

The Tigers finished 10-13 overall.

Junior varsity coach Rita Cook presented Cassie Defibaugh with the serve receive award and Kiarra Lakins with the serving award.

Holman, a standout freshman for the Tigers, also was earned All-SAC along with Grace Wilson.

Holman and Wilson ran Saturday in the semistate at Brown County. By placing 15th overall, Holman advanced to this weekend’s state meet. She is the first girls runner to make it to state.

Piper Hensley received the mental attitude award for the girls cross-country team, and Ella Plasse received the most improved award.

Rose also received a plaque for being All-SAC.

Lane Wienhorst received the most improved award, and Zerik Hunt received the mental attitude award.

Head coach Carl Bowman and assistant coach Marc Bowman presented Hensley and Wienhorst with plaques for being four-year runners. Both seniors began running in the seventh grade.

Middle school and elementary runners and volleyball players also were honored.

Fifth and sixth grade: Serving, Emma Mains; serve receive, Olivia Justice

Cross-country

Girls: Outstanding runner, Salem Wilson

Boys: Outstanding runner, Travis DeHart; most improved, Dirk Crater
