A basic self-defense seminar series will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 13, 20 and 27 and Nov. 3 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 333 S. Chestnut St., Seymour.

The series, led by Shining Spirit Warrior Martial Arts & Self-Defense, is designed to help participants develop defensive skills and techniques to assist in building a safe, happy future.

This class covers basic escape techniques such as one- and two-hand grabs, front chokes, rear chokes and wall chokes. Participants will learn realistic techniques that can be used regardless of athletic ability.

Participants will have the chance to learn how to avoid dangerous situations.

Some physical contact is necessary for best learning results, but proper techniques and skills will be taught before making contact to ensure everyone’s safety.

The cost is $10 per person per session for men and women ages 12 and up with a maximum capacity of 40.

Bring a small towel and a cold drink such as water or Gatorade.

A signed waiver will be required at the beginning of the first class. If a participant is under 18, a parent or guardian must sign.
