Haden Mettert, Seymour High School football lineman, senior

Accomplishments this past week: Seymour football defeated Floyd Central 27-22 to move to 3-1 on the season, the team’s best start since 2002. On the line, Mettert, helped the Owls’ offense gain 299 rushing yards four touchdowns, and 54 passing yards.

How were you able to perform to your potential this past week?

“More focus was put into smaller things, such as steps. I worked my reach block more vertical.”

What did you do well?

“We moved people off the ball well.”

Do you do anything special to prepare?

“I listen to music”

Favorite drink: “I’m a simple man, water”

Favorite food: tacos

Favorite music artist: Lil Red

Favorite book: “The Energy Bus”

Favorite class: Chemistry with Mr. Schuley

Role model: Coach Brian Darling

Best advice?

“Get involved with what you enjoy as much as possible.”

Mallory Moore, Seymour High school soccer, sophomore

Accomplishments: the Owls had three shutouts last week in games against Greensburg, New Albany and Silver Creek.

How were you able to perform to your potential this past week?

“Through hard work and habit forming in practice, film watching, support, and hard work given by teammates.”

What did you do well?

“I rotated well with the defense, stepping more and being more physical to get a ball.”

Do you do anything special to prepare?

“I try 100 percent in practice with every drill and drink tons of water to keep my body hydrated.”

Favorite drink: sweet tea

Favorite food: macaroni and cheese

Favorite music: country, “Simple” by Florida Georgia Line

Favorite book: any book by James Patterson

Role model?

“My papaw John. He is the wisest person I know. I get supportive texts from him mostly before every game showing me how much he cares and to remind me God is watching over me and to play for him.”

Best Advice?

“Live each day not worrying about what happened yesterday and what is going to happen tomorrow. Live in the present.”

If you could travel anywhere and why?

“I want to go down to Hawaii so bad. My favorite show is Hawaii Five-O, which shows Hawaii and the amazing views and land structures it offers. It is so beautiful there.”

Athletic goals?

“Achieve my full potential in each game or match I play, win sectional/conference titles(s) for soccer in my high school career, win sectional/conference title(s) for tennis in my high school career, advance to regionals and beyond in soccer and tennis.”
